Magnum P.I. is an American detective drama that ran on CBS from December 11, 1980 to May 8, 1988 for eight seasons created by Donald P. Bellisario and Glen A. Larson.

Spin-off[]

Magnum P.I. spun off Magnum P.I. The continuity of the two shows is disputed, as in Magnum P.I. (2018) "A Kiss Before Dying", an unnamed barber character reminisces about his situation; his story heavily implies that he is actually T.C. from this show. Additionally, he is played by Roger E. Mosley, who portrayed T.C. in this show.

Westphall connections with Magnum P.I.[]

  • "Ki'is Don't Lie" concludes in Simon & Simon "Emeralds Are Not a Girl's Best Friend".
  • "Novel Connection" concludes in Murder, She Wrote "Magnum on Ice".

Westphall connections in Magnum P.I.[]

  • Steve McGarrett from Hawaii Five-O was mentioned by Thomas Magnum in "Skin Deep".
  • In "Flashback" a dance club called the Kit Kat Club is mentioned. While set in Oahu, this is presumably a branch of the Berlin Kit Cat Club from Cabaret.
  • In "Past Tense", Higgins mentions having been a POW during World War II who worked on the title location of The Bridge on the River Kwai. While that film is based on real events involving the construction of the Burma Railway, no such bridge was ever constructed over the River Kwai during World War II in real life. The real bridge on which the film is based was built over the Mae Klong river, which begins at the confluence of the River Kwai.
  • In "The Taking of Dick McWilliams", when TC and Rick run several license plate numbers, and TC mentions having checked one out, but overlooked it due to the fact it belonged to a member of the 5-0 team. This character was named McGarrett, referring to Hawaii Five-O's Steve McGarrett.

Westphall connection to Magnum P.I.[]

Jim Bonnick, a recurring character, is mentioned as being married to Sam Beckett's sister in the Quantum Leap pilot episode "Genesis".
